November 1985, the Institute of International Technology and Economy (IITE) is
a non-profit research organization affiliated to the Development Research
Center of the State Council. The major function of IITE is to study major
political, strategic and prospective issues in national economic, scientific,
technological and social development, to track and analyze the trends in world
scientific, technological and economic development, and to provide central
government and its departments with consultation services for decision making.
To participate in the development of national
scientific and technological strategy,?and the assessment of?national
scientific and technological security risks.
To offer policy recommendations on the formulation and implementation of national
technological development strategies and plans, by means of investigating the
demands of mid- and long- term social and economic development for sciences and
technologies, tracking and analyzing the dynamics of world cutting edge
scientific and technological development, studying the trends and features of
technological development in key areas and industries, and forecasting and evaluating
the prospects of scientific and technological development.
To conduct studies on major strategic issues and provide support to national strategic decision and policy-making according to the principle of selecting government-directed and demand-driven topics.
carry out research and consultation tasks commissioned by central and local
governments, domestic and foreign corporations, research organizations, social
organizations and international organizations.
